Boss Gift

Giving the boss a gift for Boss Day (October 16, or the nearest workday), Christmas, or birthday is a common practice in the workplace. A gift for the boss provides a vehicle for the employees to show their appreciation for their chief, and helps to build more harmonious work relationship.

On the other hand, boss gift is a business gift. Thus, business etiquette has to be followed in giving gift for the boss. A rule of thumb is that a group gift with your co-workers is generally better than giving a gift for boss on your own.  This way, your boss will feel more comfortable in accepting the gift, and you can avoid suspicion from colleagues that you are trying to buy favors from the boss. If you do want to give a gift on your own, the gift should be inexpensive. There may be company policy in place that prohibits managers from accepting expensive gifts from employees. You also need to be discreet in your gifting, so as not to cause any embarassment. Some boss gift ideas are provided here to help you with the selection.

Since boss gifts are business gifts, selecting a gift for your manager is similar to selecting a gift for your clients, or business associates. Gourmet gift basket, fruit basket, coffee gift basket are all great executive gifts. They are appropriate for any occasion. The main consideration is the gift has to meet the food choice of the recipient.  For example, fruit baskets are usually sent to health conscious individuals. On the other hand, coffee gift basket is for the coffee lovers. Similarly, for the meat and cheese lovers (most men are), the best gift will be meat and cheese gift. Gourmet baskets are elegant gifts for all occasion, the only consideration is you need to know if your boss has dietary restriction. If he/she cannot have much sugar, then a sugar-free gift basket or a non-food gift will be a better choice.

For non-food gift, you can consider gifting a personalized pen, pocket watch, iPad case, or business card case. These are all useful and practical gifts that can last for a long time. Most of these gifts have a few models to choose from. For example, for personalized pen, you can choose from the elegant Waterford Ardmore ballpoint pen, made by the manufacturer of fine crystal, or the Waterford Lismore fountain pen, to the more economical bamboo pen set. All of these pen sets can be engraved with the name or initials of your boss, and come with a gift box. If your boss is an iPad user, he/she will appreciate a personalized iPad case that allows the iPad be used in 4 different positions, and easy storage.

All these gifts discussed above are affordable, and above all they convey your heart-felt sincerity, which may be the most important message you want to deliver to your boss.
